Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I would like to congratulate the Astros and the Cubs for tying for the division title in the Clear Spring Little League. Way to go teams!"

"Does anyone care that our taxpayers money is going out of Washington County to Garrett County for a "Dream Team" leadership conference when there is a financial crisis with the needs of schools, salaries for teachers, etc? Why are retired administrators required to attend this conference? This doesn't make sense and is not justifiable. Herman Bartlett should give an accurate account of total expenses related to this conference, as soon as he is able to."

"I was wondering if anyone else was concerned about the price of the movies? It is ridiculous! It costs $7 to get into the movies now! You can rent three movies for that price! I don't know why they keep jacking up the prices!"

"If you have a loved one in a nursing home, go up and check them out. If you have a loved one that is being mistreated, don't be ashamed to report it because I did and it really pays off."

"When you are playing baseball, I thought that we were supposed to be setting an example for our children, good sportsmanship, good leadership. We have a team over at our Little League who lost against an opponent. The coach that won was willing to buy ice cream for both teams. Because the team that had lost were such bad sports about it, they would not accept the ice cream for the children that lost. I don't understand it. I thought that we were supposed to be setting an example for our children?"

"To the people of Hagerstown and Washington County. If we let the County Commissioners and all the people who want this stadium get a new one, I think we are making a big mistake. That is going to raise our taxes. Who attends the ball games? We are going to have two places, like the fiber plant sitting there not doing anything, making more taxes for us and then we are going to have the old stadium just sitting there. Furthermore, the Toronto Blue Jays are not our team."

"People who live and have to drive in the area, please do not flash your lights if you see a cop and you have oncoming traffic coming. What you are doing is impeding the performance of a police officer. So think about it. To the gentlemen who says he is always in a hurry and has to travel 75 or 80 miles an hour, it's you that we want to catch. I can understand people going 5 miles over, but not going 75 or 80. For you people flashing your lights, let him go, let him go and he will get caught!"

"I am calling about the person who called about what to do to keep the bees and wasps off the hummingbird feeders. All you have to do is take vegetable oil and put it around the flower that is on the feeding point."

"I am calling about the stadium. Why don't you just forget it and use the money for the Community Free Clinic and help the people who really need it?"

"Let's let common sense prevail and locate the University of Maryland Campus at Hagerstown Community College and in the meantime correct the traffic problem there to accommodate it. Let's put the Suns stadium at the Allegheny Power site since they were going to donate the million dollars anyway to bear Allegheny's name. Does that make any sense?"

"I am calling in regards to the plans for the new stadium. I remember a few months ago the land around the old roundhouse was considered too contaminated for Hagerstown officials to want to invest in it. But now it seems that we can plan a stadium on that location. I have a very good outcome for the entire situation at this point; all the planners, supporters and everyone involved, Amtrak leaves for Florida every day."

"I used to flash my lights when I saw a police with a radar gun especially on the highway. But now the speed limit is 65 mph and that is fast enough. As for the country roads and the roads we drive on in Washington County, as growth has gone on in Washington County, nothing has been done about our roads. Our roads are in terrible shape and hardly adequate for the traffic that ride them every day. I don't flash lights anymore because the people that drive too fast on these roads deserve to be pulled over. People drive worse now than they ever drove before. When the speed limit says 40, drive 40. When it says 25, drive 25. You are not in any more of a hurry than anyone else and I don't really care if you are. The law is the law. Live by it!"

"The new stadium is being shoved down our throats. Will the people who want this please stand up, the majority doesn't. No wonder people are staying away from the polls. Let's put our money in better useful projects, such as education."
