Virginia man dies in crash on W.Va. 9

June 24, 1999

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Virginia man was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was riding in flipped on W.Va. 9 east of Charles Town, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Killed was David Allen Rinker, 23, of Middletown, Va., according to sheriff's officials.

Also riding in the car was Pete Colvin, 24, of Millville, deputies said.

Colvin, who suffered head injuries, was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, where he was listed in fair condition Thursday evening, according to a hospital spokesman.

It is unclear who was driving the car. Deputies were investigating to make that determination Thursday.

The 1991 Hyundai was traveling west on W.Va. 9 just inside the Jefferson County line when it went left of center, climbed an embankment and flipped, said Chief Deputy Jesse Jones.

The accident occurred about 3:25 a.m.
