Roundup-Team Maryland swept in Oklahoma

SEMINOLE, Okla. - Boonsboro's Justin Hamilton, after working a 1-2-3 first inning, allowed nine runs in the second as Team Maryland lost to Florida 12-3 in six innings in the Sunbelt Classic at Seminole State College on Wednesday.

Hamilton gave up a leadoff home run in the inning before an error opened up the flood gates.

Five of the runs Hamilton allowed were unearned. South Hagerstown's Mike Squibb finished the second and pitched the third, then gave way to Allegany's Dan Lidner.

Squibb gave up three hits. Tracy Vallandingham (Leonardtown) had two hits for Team Maryland.

In its first game Wednesday, Team Maryland spotted Oklahoma a five-run lead and dropped an 8-5 decision.

Team Maryland trailed 8-1 before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended with the tying run in the on-deck circle.

South Carroll pitcher Jason Tourangeau struck out four in four innings before giving way to Scott Phillips (North Harford).


Steve Pyzik (Loyola) had three hits, Kyle George (Bel Air) had a three-run double and Norris Roy (Arundel) had two hits for Team Maryland, which outhit Oklahoma, 11-7.


Maugansville Junior League

Carbaugh's 15, Hagerstown Kitchens 5: Danny Carroll and Jesse McAllister combined on a seven-hitter, while T.J. Hose and Jimmy Wilson each had three hits for Carbaugh's. Sean Palmer had two hits for Hagerstown Kitchens.

Hagerstown Colt League

VFW 9, Barton 3: Simon Henry, Derek Haines and Steve Miles each had two hits, while Haines pitched a six-hitter for VFW.

VFW 3, Barton 1: Jesse Benaka and Simon Henry combined on a six-hitter in an eight-inning win for VFW. Henry, Ryan Suder and Tim Hawkins each had two hits.

Clear Spring Minor League

Orioles 20, Blue Jays 8: Roger Shoemaker had two hits, while Shoemaker, Sammy Mills and Cody Butts combined for 12 strikeouts to lead the Orioles.

Conococheague Minor League

Valley Storage 20, Shawley's 14: Travis Rhoton had 10 strikeouts, Travis Kelly had three hits and Brandon Morales had two hits for Valley Storage. Francesco Scotto DiCarlo had two hits, incluidng a homer, while Timothy McCartney added a homer for Shawley's.

West End Little League

Coca-Cola 12, Moose 7: Jacey McElroy had three hits, including a home run, to lead Coca-Cola. Cory Berger had three hits and Cory Walzel had two hits for Coca-Cola.

Hagerstown PONY League

Eagles 10, UAW 8: Jeff Decker had three hits - two of them three-run homers - and Alex Malphrus had two hits to lead Eagles. Cole Bellon had a two-run double for UAW.

South Mountain Little League

Optimist 16, Reese's 7: Josh Lewis had three hits, and Johnny Reese and Chad Bolinger had two hits to lead Optimist. Sean Rose and Matt Piston had two hits for Reese's.

National Little League

Longmeadow Exxon 11, Funkstown 2: Patrick Hutzler struck out seven and had two hits, and Brittany Hyatt had three hits to lead Longmeadown. Willie Dayhoff had two hits for Funkstown.

FOP 4, Longmeadow Exxon 0: Nate Steelman struck out 13 in a one-hitter and also homered to give FOP a 1-0 lead in the league championship series. Ryan Rau also had two hits and John Parrish homered for FOP. Brad Crouse struck out 11 for Longmeadow.

Concococheague Little League

Post 202 9, Lions 7: Josh Welch and Scott Mummert had three hits, and James Grubbs added two hits to lead Post 202.

Maugansville Little League

Executone 13, Ruritan 11: Mike Twigg, Justin Jones and Corey Monroe all had two hits to lead Executone. Anthony Sandonato and T.J. Cooper had two hits and R.J. Foltz homered for Ruritan.

Halfway Little League

Hoffman Auto 9, Redmen 7: Aaron Smith had two and Dennis Herbert had two hits, and Smith homered, to lead Hoffman. Matt Sweigert had two hits for Redmen.

Valley Little League

Pangborn 11, ICC 1: Josh Daniels struck out eight and allowed just two hits in a complete game that won the league title for Pangborn. Joe Acre, Tyler Wolford, Keith Fowler and A.J. Meckl all had two hits for Pangborn.

Clear Spring Minor League

Yankees 14, Astros 10: Steven Ray had seven strikeouts, including the last five batters of the game, and Josh Hoffman and Conrad Graybill each had three stolen bases to lead the Yankees. Eric Lippoldt and Ryan Shifler had two hits and Lippoldt homered for the Astros.

Halfway Senior League

Funkstown 10, Elks 4: Matt Wood and Eric Fitzgerald had three hits, and Brian Williams, Nick Maas, Cliff Barnhart and Chris Kline all had two hits for Funkstown. Gary Combs and Brian Royce had two hits for Elks.


Hub City/Pinesburg Softball

Hagerstown Billiards and Cafe/Adam's Pizza 20, Ernst/Ollie's 10: Scott Remsburg had five hits, while Jeff Hetzer, Leon Allen, Donnie Blickenstaff, Danny Berg and Denny Bryan each had three hits for Hagerstown Billiards/Adam's. Earl Rowland had three hits, including a homer, for Ernst/Ollie's.

Talley Metals 21, Rapid Lube 11: Jeff Myers, Ronnie Shoemaker and Dewey Whitmore all had four hits to lead Talley. Myers also homered.
