Homicide charge filed against driver

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police have filed additional chrges against the driver of a car in a May 29 accident after one of his passengers died Sunday.

Alejandro Figueroa, also known as Alejandro Collada-Ortiz, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle and involvuntary manslaughter, according to police.

Figueroa, 20, whose last known address was 383 E. Washington St., Chambersburg, is being sought by the police. The report said anyone with information about his whereabouts should call 264-5161 and ask for either Trooper Joe Davidson or Ed Asbury.

Figueroa had originally been charged with driving under the influence following the one-vehicle accident on Scotland Road in Greene Township. The report said he lost control on a curve and struck a telephone pole.

Oscar Maldonado, 30, of Trenton, N.J., was a backseat passenger in the car. He died Sunday at Chambersburg Hospital of complications from a tear to his lower intestine he suffered in the accident, according to Franklin County Deputy Coroner Kenneth L. Peiffer.

The report said Figueroa suffered a broken left arm and minor facial injuries in the accident. He was treated at Chambersburg Hospital and released from Franklin County Prison on June 1 after posting $5,000 bond.

Another passenger, Jose Estrada-Gramajo, 25, of Hamilton, N.J., was also treated at Chambersburg Hospital.

Figueroa is described as Hispanic about five feet, five inches tall and 130 pounds. He has crew cut brown hair and the report said he should still have evidence of the injuries he suffered in the accident.
