Roundup-Post 211 beats Frederick, 12-7

FREDERICK, Md. - Funkstown Legion Post 211 scored five runs in the eighth inning to defeat Frederick Legion 12-7 Tuesday in the completion of a game suspended last Wednesday.

John Schnebly's sacrifice scored the winning run in the eighth. Brandon Boger added an RBI single in the frame.

Dustin French led Funkstown (10-1, 2-0 Western Maryland District) with three hits, while P.J. Hiser and Heth Troncatti each had two hits. Hiser and French drove in two runs each, while Troncatti drove in one.

Mike Squibb struck out seven and allowed only three hits through six innings.


CSL Softball

Allegany Dental 4, Five Forks Hurricanes 3: Ashley Shank hit an inside-the-park grand slam to win the game for Allegany Dental.


Federal Little League

Kiwanis 21, American Legion 1: P.J. Donoghue had four hits to lead Kiwanis. Harrison Hammond had three hits, while Seth Moul, Matt Huber and Ben Poole each had two hits.

West End Little League

Elks 9, Moose 3: Chris Gorve had three hits, including a homer, to lead Elks. Jeff Short added two hits. Tyler Warer had 10 strikeouts to lead Moose.

West End Minor League

Callas 12, Hiser 8: Casey Fair, Jerome Collier, Hoa Diep, Liley Gordon, David Garrett, John Wilfong and Travis Oyler all had two hits for Callas. Justin Leggett, Aaron Martin, Josh Eardy and Dustin Saylor all had three hits for three hits, and Saylor homered for Hiser.

South County Senior League

Aladdin Awards 9, Appalachian Builders 8: Aaron Stocks and Dan Deall each had three hits, while Stocks drove in the winning run for Aladdin Awards. Jake Harmon and Travis Itnyre each had two hits for Appalachian Builders.

Hagerstown PONY League

Elks 11, UAW 4: Jason Pitsnogle had two hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in five runs to lead Elks. Mike Vaverchak had two hits and two RBIs, while Nathan Kaetzel had two hits. Jamie Grossnickle had two hits and two RBIs, while Robbie Peterson and Dave Peacher had two hits each for UAW.

UAW 13, Troopers 3: Chris Schildt pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, while Reinner Pearell had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs to lead UAW. Luther Davis added three hits, Will Roney had two hits and Jamie Grossnickle homered. Cody Hanes led Troopers with two hits.

Goodwill 10, Elks 0: Corey Mowen pitched a complete-game two-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Goodwill. Josh Carter hit a two-run double. Mike Vaverchak and Nathan Kaetzel combined for nine strikeouts for Elks.

South Mountain Little League

Nationwide 11, Optimist 1: Corey Robinson struck out nine and had two hits for South Mountain. Chris Thomas and Matthew Byers had two hits each, while Chris Cannon and Robert Bowman each had two hits, including homers. Josh Lewis had two hits for Optimist.

Halfway Little League

Redmen 8, Lions 7: Tommy Wallech had two hits and earned the win for Redmen. Sam Ward had three hits and Robert Zellner hit a homer for Lions.

National Little League

Long Meadow Exxon 7, FOP 4: Ben Cafferilli, Patrick Hutzler and Brad Crouse had two hits for Long Meadow Exxon. Crouse struck out 14 in the win. Doug Palmer and Nate Steelman had two hits, and Steelman added a homer for FOP.

South Mountain Minor League

Jerry's Sports/Designs Unlimited 10, Rotary 9: Joel Pryor had four hits, David Lewis had three hits and Chase Leizear had two hits for Jerry's Sports/Designs Unlimited. Shane Lowery had three hits for Rotary.

Smithsburg Little Sluggers

Lewis Orchards 19, Lions 8: Brandon Sheaffer had three hits, while Dustin Green, Ricky Lewis, Amelia Fishack and Jason Everhart each had two hits for Lewis Orchards. Sheaffer and Lewis combined to strike out 12. Josh Stanton had two hits, including a homer, while Stephen Adams and Matt Thompson had two hits each for Lions.

American Little League

Elks 9, Thompson Concrete 5: Ross Pederson pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for Elks. J.J. Myers added two hits. Justin Marshall homered for Thompson Concrete.

Olympia Trophy 12, Eagles 1: Charlie Kline struck out nine to earn the win for Olympia Trophy. Travis Williams went 4-for-4, while Kline, Tim Jacobson and Christina Line each had two hits. Timothy Kline had two hits for Eagles.

Hancock Little League

Astros 11, Pirates 7: Alex Younker had three hits, while Amy Barton and Brock Flowers added two hits each for the Astros. Brad Mellott had two hits for the Pirates.

Valley Little League

Pangborn 10, ICC 6: Josh Daniels struck out 14 and had three hits to lead Pangborn. Matt Feiser, A.J. Meckl and Chris Orsini all had two hits.

Washington Co. Girls Softball

Ernst Market 23, New Era Homes 16: Heather Yost had four hits, including a homer, Brooke Pohl had three hits, while Jamie Poffenberger and Amy Bikle had two hits each for Ernst Market. Jenny Mose, Rachel Becker and Calli Shank each had two hits for New Era Homes.

Maugansville Little League

Brewer's Saab 3, Executone 0: Brewer's pitcher Adam Merrbaugh fired a two-hitter and struck out seven batters.
