Bats pitch Hagerstown a 2-0 loss

June 04, 1999

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A trio of Greensboro pitchers accomplished Friday what few have done this season, holding the Hagerstown Suns scoreless in a 2-0 victory.

Keith Dunn held the Suns to two singles through the first three innings and then started a string that retired 16 straight batters from the third through eighth innings.

It was only the second time the Suns were shut out this season and the first blanking since a 1-0 loss to Hickory on May 7.

Hagerstown's only two hits were singles, one by Jay Gibbons with two outs in the first and the other by Jorge Nunez with two outs in the third.

The loss ended the Suns' three-game winning streak.

Greensboro took a 1-0 lead against Taylor Smith in the third as Clear Spring's Brad Elwood singled to right center and took third on John Darjean's double. Elwood scored on Billy Brown's grounder to third.

The Bats got their insurance run in the seventh when Teuris Olavares hit Brian Bowles' first pitch over the right field wall for a home run.
