MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man was killed when he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident on Edwin Miller Boulevard early Friday morning, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Charles Mordesovitch, 25, of Martinsburg, was walking in front of a Sheetz convenience store about 5:10 a.m. when a car struck him and left the scene, said Lt. Kenneth Lemaster.

Mordesovitch was knocked off the side of the road and onto a berm, said Lemaster.

Mordesovitch was declared dead at the scene by Berkeley County Coroner Sandra Brining, Lemaster said.

Lemaster said he cannot determine how fast the car might have been traveling.

"We're still investigating it and doing interviews," Lemaster said.

Deputies recovered evidence at the scene, but Lemaster declined to elaborate.

Police believe Mordesovitch was walking to work when the accident occurred.
