Roundup-Jefferson, Musselman win in sectionals

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Josh Cenate (11-1) held Hedgesville to three hits while striking out 12 and walking just one as No. 1 Jefferson eliminated the Eagles 8-0 in the Class AAA Region II Section 1 tournament Tuesday.

Jimmy Rhodes collected two doubles and three RBIs, while Scott Wells ripped a solo homer in the third inning for Jefferson.

Jefferson (26-4) plays at Martinsburg today at 4:30 in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the section championship.

Hedgesville finished the season 13-16

In the Section 2 tournament, Aaron Mueller set a school record with his eighth win of the season as Musselman defeated Hampshire, 11-1.


Flint Hill 14, St. James 1

VIENNA, Va. - Flint Hill took advantage of eight St. James errors in the first three innings to claim a Mid Atlantic Conference win.

Larry Scott drove in the only run for the Saints (7-7, 6-5).

Grace Academy 8, CVCS 7

Joel Stevens had two hits for Grace in its MDCC playoff victory over Cumberland Valley Christian Academy. Daniel Slough had a triple.

Grace plays Shalom for the championship next week.

Waynesboro 4, Central Dauphin 3

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jeff Kirkpatrick had two hits, including the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, as No. 3 Waynesboro advanced to the Mid Penn Tournament final.

Brett Showalter had two hits for Waynesboro (16-5). Matt Osbourne had an RBI double in the sixth and Chris Shearer had an RBI single in the fourth for Waynesboro. Ben Leonard got the win in relief.

Waynesboro hosts Cedar Cliff today at 4 in the Mid-Penn League Tournament championship game.


Hyndman 1, Southern Fulton 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Ann Shaffer hurled a two-hit shutout to lead Hyndman past No. 4 Southern Fulton.

Hyndman (11-6) scored its only run in the third on two Southern Fulton errors.

Michelle Golden allowed only four hits for Southern Fulton (13-4).


Mercersburg Academy 8, Maret 7

WASHINGTON - Pat Koch had four goals as Mercersburg Academy beat Maret.

James Eads added two goals, while Greg Rohman and Ian Wauchope had one goal each for Mercersburg (5-6). Adrian Fang made 18 saves.


Federal Little League

EXCHANGE OVER ALSATIAExchange 16, Alsatia 5: Adam Tosten, Jordan Hanst and Kevin Brashears each had two hits to lead Exchange. Freddie Kreiger and Matt Wagner each had two hits for Alsatia.

F&M 11, Total Lube 8: Corey Kershner struck out 12 and Brian Gaver drove in the winning run for F&M.

Maugansville Little League

Maugans Oil 15, Executone 6: Justin Weaver and Doug Jones each had four hits and Mike Wallech added two to lead Maugans Oil. One of Weaver's hits was a home run. Mike Twigg, Cory Monroe and Justin Jones each had two hits for Executone.

Smithsburg Little Sluggers

Mace Auto Body 17, Lewis Orchards 10: Jeremy Rupert had four hits for Mace. Kevin Jaye and Logan Miller combined to strike out 12. Miller had three hits, and Molly Meadows had two hits. For Lewis, Dustin Green and Abe Nehemias had two hits each.

West End Minor League

Woodpoint 12, St. Lawrence Cement 2: Dameatric Scott had three hits, including a triple. J.J. O'Neil had three hits, and Dustin Hines, Terry Cassidy and Dyllon Baker each had two hits. Alex Tyler had two hits for St. Lawrence.

Valley Little League

St. Lawrence 6, FOP 1: Nathan Venditta had three hits, and Mason Herman and Ben Rishell had two hits each. Alex Wine had two hits for FOP.

Washington Co. Babe Ruth League

Rowland's 8, Haller Construction 4: Brian Harbaugh had two hits, and Justin Hess and Jeffrey Mills combined to strike out 10 for Rowland's. Drew Nalley had two hits for Haller.

Clear Spring Junior League

FFR 12, Elks 2: Josh Barnhart and Corey McCarthy combined for 10 strikeouts and a one-hitter. Raymond Morgan and Barnhart had two hits each.

West End Little League

Stags 11, AFL-CIO 7: D.J. Lucas had three hits, including a homer, to lead Stags. Kent Worthington and Orland Dean added two hits each for the winners. Trevor Cobb and Jonathan Breehl combined for 12 strikeouts for AFL-CIO. Cobb had three hits, including a homer, while Breehl added two hits.

National Little League

Long Meadow Exxon 8, Funkstown Legion 7: Brad Crouse drove in the winning run in the sixth inning for Long Meadow Exxon. Patrick Hutzler came through with three hits for Long Meadow Exxon. Tim Miller and Jason Sutherland had two hits each for Funkstown Legion. One of Sutherland's hits was a home run.

Conococheague Little League

Wolfe's 12, Post 202 1: Ryan Lee and Troy Mills combined on a two-hitter for Wolfe's. Jason Rickard, Nick Roberts and Josh Schrimsher added two hits apiece for the winners. Andrew Twigg had two hits for Post 202.

Halfway Little League

Valley Storage Bins 9, Hoffman Autos 8: Tyler Barrett had two hits, including the game-winner in the seventh inning, for Valley Storage Bins. Brian Everitts had four hits and Hank Smith added three for Hoffman Autos.
