Missing man found dead along Interstate 81

suicide apparent

May 17, 1999

SCOTLAND, Pa. - A Virginia man reported missing May 4 was found Monday off of Interstate 81, dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Although the 26-year-old Arlington man had been missing almost two weeks, Franklin County Deputy Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said the man had only been dead about three to five days. He said that was also the conclusion of the pathologist who conducted the autopsy Monday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa.

Conner ruled the death a suicide. He said the man had a single gunshot wound to the head and a firearm was found at the scene. He did not say what kind of weapon had been recovered.

The police report said a state trooper did a computer check at about 9:25 a.m. on a vehicle parked along the berm of the interstate about a mile north of Exit 8. The man's body was found about 80 feet east of the highway, police said.
