Man sentenced for assaulting co-worker

May 06, 1999

A 28-year-old Hagerstown man was handed an eight-year suspended sentence Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court for assaulting a co-worker last June with a metal pipe.

Lamont D. McMullen Sr., of 44 1/2 E. Franklin St., pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, according to court records. First-degree assault, reckless endangerment and a weapons charge were dropped in exchange for the plea.

The June 25 incident at the Sealy Mattress plant at 16114 Elliott Parkway in Williamsport began with a name-calling exchange between McMullen and the victim, Ronald Stover, court records said.

The two men got into a physical fight and McMullen hit Stover with a metal pipe, court records said. He then chased Stover with a knife, court records said.

Stover, who was cut on the head, got treatment at Washington County Hospital.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Judge Kennedy Boone placed McMullen on probation for three years and fined him $185.
