Youth group can camp at Town Pond

SHARPSBURG - Sharpsburg Town Council members gave the OK on Monday for a youth group to camp at the Town Pond after a fishing tournament.

The group would have supervision, said Town Councilman Ralph Hammond.

Councilwoman Denise Troxell said it's OK as long as groups ask the council's permission first.

Railroad Museum gets HO scale layout

SHARPSBURG - The Hagerstown Model Railroad Museum Inc. has been given a complete HO scale layout.

The 22-foot-by-27-foot layout is being stored at Antietam National Battlefield until September, when museum officials hope to have the old train station in good enough shape to store the layout.

The layout includes tunnels, mountains and skyscrapers, Sharpsburg Town Councilwoman Denise Troxell told her colleagues at Monday's council meeting.

The layout may need to be reduced by 4 feet to fit it in the train station, she said.

The museum will be having work sessions to remove lead paint from the old station on Monday evenings around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., Troxell said. People who want to help need face masks and eye protection.
