Frick lays off 15 workers

April 30, 1999

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Fifteen salaried employees at the Frick Co. in Waynesboro were laid off this week due to a first-quarter business slump, a spokeswoman with Frick's parent company in York, Pa., said Friday.

The layoffs are expected to be permanent, said Helen Marsteller, vice president of corporate communications for York International. The furloughed workers were given severance packages and will receive professional job placement counseling, Marsteller said.

She said some restructuring was needed because business in the first quarter of the year did not meet expectations. She also said the forecast did not show any improvement.

Employment at Frick has grown from 800 in 1997 to 841 this year. Friday's layoffs drop the number down to 826, she said.
