Trooper shoots Adamstown man

ADAMSTOWN, Md. - A Maryland state trooper shot an Adamstown man after a traffic stop and subsequent confrontation Wednesday. Police said the man waved a knife at a Frederick County deputy and later pointed a shotgun at the trooper.

Michael W. More, 45, of Mt. Ephraim Road, was in critical condition and under police guard late Wednesday at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Deputy Thomas Henry said he stopped More for speeding on Park Mills Road and smelled alcohol when he approached the vehicle. He said More got out of his truck and swung a hunting knife at him, then fled.

Henry chased More to his home and called for backup. More came out of the house with a loaded shotgun and pointed it at Trooper Patrick L. Morris, who then fired a buckshot round from a 12-gauge shotgun, striking More in the side, officers said.

More was flown to Shock Trauma for treatment.
