Silly question

April 20, 1999

Why did Students Against Drunk Driving change its name to Students Against Destructive Decisions?

In order to encompass other factors beyond a person driving drunk, said Mary Jo Ashburn, faculty adviser for the SADD group at North Hagerstown High School.

The name was changed about two years ago, she said.

The SADD chapters noticed that many fatal accidents were attributed to causes other than drinking, such as road rage and drug use, she said.

SADD's definition of destructive decisions includes alcohol and drug use, playing with firearms and tobacco, she said.
