Hancock school extends counseling center hours

April 14, 1999

HANCOCK - The counseling staff at Hancock Middle-Senior High School has announced the beginning of an extended hours counseling center during the first and third Thursdays of each month beginning April 15. Hours are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After a telephone community survey, the counseling staff decided to accommodate the growing number of parents who have a difficult time getting off work to come to school for conferences or other concerns regarding their children.

Counselors Nancy Settle and Mac Dawson say holding meetings after regular school hours will increase communication between the school and community, resulting in students who are more ready, willing and able to learn.

It also is the counseling center's intent to provide monthly seminars that will be of assistance to parents and/or students.

Topics being considered range from Attention Deficit Disorder to College Planning and from Conflict Resolution to Improving SAT scores.

Information can be accessed through the middle and high school counseling centers - both via the computer and hard copy (printed material, video tapes, etc.). Examples include military/career information, college catalogs and Peterson guides, Occupational Outlook Handbooks, SAT/ACT information, GED/Evening High School materials, scholarship opportunities, career interest inventories, and more.
