April 09, 1999

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Pride Days committee is sponsoring an essay contest to promote this year's event.

Open to all ages, the theme for the essay is "Why I'm Proud to Live in Smithsburg."

Entrants do not have to live in Smithsburg, but should have some ties to the community such as school, family or place of work.

Essays are limited to 100 words or less. Entries should be legible. Judging will be based on sincerity, originality, thought and interest.

There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes in each of five age groups. Prizes will consist of cash and gift certificates from businesses.
