CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Two area people have been arrested following an investigation into a string of thefts in the Eastern Panhandle, according to West Virginia State Police.
Arrested Tuesday were Robert Shannon Phipps, 28, of Kearneysville and Cathy Jane Bohrer, 30, of Inwood, according to court records.
The thefts included $1,253 worth of rifles and other hunting equipment stolen from a house on Persimmon Lane in the Shepherdstown area last year, according to Jefferson County Magistrate Court records.
Other thefts occurred in Shannondale and in Berkeley and Morgan Counties, said Trooper Jose Centeno.
The two are suspected of driving by houses looking for items that could be easily stolen, said Centeno.
In other cases, police believe two people knocked on doors of homes to determine if anyone was home. If no one was home, they would break in, said Centeno.
Phipps was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and being an accessory before the fact, according to court records.
