Neighborhoods First meetings scheduled

April 05, 1999

A number of public meetings are scheduled for groups participating in Hagerstown's Neighborhoods First Program.

The Neighborhoods First Program, sponsored by the city, helps neighborhood groups form and then helps the groups complete a community project, either through direct funding or by helping the group find funding sources.

Through the program, residents of the High Street area had two vacant houses demolished. A parking lot is now on that property.

Meetings for groups participating in the program are:

-- Ridge Avenue community, 7 p.m. today at the Roundhouse Museum at 300 S. Burhans Blvd.

-- Jonathan Street community, 7 p.m., Thursday at Memorial Recreation Center at 109 W. North Ave.

-- Downtown community, 7 p.m., April 12, at the Church of the Brethren at the corner of East Washington and South Mulberry streets. The next meeting for that group is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 26 at the Otterbein U.M. Church at 108 E. Franklin St.

-- Northwest community, which includes the Carroll Heights and Hamilton Park area, 7:30 p.m., April 14 at Haven Lutheran Church at 1035 Haven Road.

-- West End community, 7 p.m., April 20 at the Neighborhood Housing Office at 451 Salem Ave.

For more information, or to find out which group is in your neighborhood, contact Larry Bayer in the city Community Development office at 301-739-8577, extension 133.
