Wreck victim was visiting family

April 05, 1999

A Maugansville woman who died on Easter Sunday after a one-car accident in Allegany County the night before was visiting family in Lonaconing, Md., for the holiday, a co-worker said.

Dianna Lynn Pierce, 27, had lived in Washington County for the past three years, according to Sherry McCarthy, who worked with Pierce at the Colonial Restaurant and Motel on Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Dianna was very friendly and outgoing," McCarthy said. "She was a lot of fun."

McCarthy said she knew her friend was in Allegany County visiting family over the Easter holiday.

"It was a blessing she didn't have her 5-year-old daughter with her," McCarthy said.

The Allegany County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident, which occurred Saturday at 11:48 p.m. on Md. 939 near Midland, Md.

Police said Pierce was alone in her northbound 1996 Chevrolet Beretta when she lost control and the car crashed into a utility pole.

Pierce was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland on Sunday morning, according to police.

Formerly of Lonaconing, Pierce had been living at 14040 Village Mill in Maugansville and worked at the Colonial as a server.

"In January, she celebrated her third year working here," McCarthy said. "We're going to miss her."
