Man faces gun charge

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man was charged Friday in a shooting that occurred in a used car lot here Wednesday, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Robert Richard Michaels Jr., 56, of 1209 N. Queen St., was charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm, according to court records.

William Claybourne of Hagerstown was shot in the finger during an argument with another man at D M Auto Sales on North Queen Street, according to West Virginia State Police.

There was a struggle during the argument in which a man pulled a loaded .25-caliber pistol from his waistband and pointed it at Claybourne, court records said. The struggle continued and the gun discharged, according to court records.

Claybourne's girlfriend drove him to the state police detachment on Edwin Miller Boulevard after the 1:30 p.m. shooting. Claybourne was treated at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown and released.

Police believe the altercation started with a disagreement about money.
