Man dies of injuries in Buchanan forest

March 30, 1999

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A Harrisonville, Pa., man died Sunday of injuries he sustained Saturday in an accident with an all-terrain vehicle in Buchanan State Forest, authorities said.

Wayne E. Snyder, 59, was pronounced dead Sunday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pa., a State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources officer said Tuesday.

DCNR forester Edward Bortzfield said Snyder and three companions were riding ATVs on Oregon Road in Buchanan State Forest on Saturday afternoon when a pickup truck approached from the opposite direction.

The four ATVs moved to single file to pass by the truck when, for some unknown reason, Snyder's went off the road and hit a berm, Bortzfield said. The ATV flipped several times, throwing Snyder off and then landing on him, Bortzfield said.
