James E. Oden Sr.

SMITHSBURG - James E. Oden Sr., 72, of 11252 Oden Lane, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his home.

Born Oct. 30, 1926, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph James and Nellie Grace Trumpower Oden.

He served in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean with the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring as Boatswain's Mate 1st Class in 1964.

He was employed by the Department of Energy in Germantown, Md., and by the Internal Revenue Service in Martinsburg, W.Va., retiring in 1990 after 25 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greensburg, Md.

He was a member of Hagerstown Masonic Lodge 217; Cumberland Scottish Rite 32nd Degree; Tall Cedar of Lebanon 95; Order of the Eastern Star 89; George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association; VFW Post 1936; Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, both of Hagerstown; Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro; Fraternal Order of Police 83, Martinsburg; Fleet Reserve Association; National Association for Uniformed Services; and Aid Association for Lutherans.

He is survived by his wife, Anna E. Smith Oden; a daughter, Lorie A. Poster of Smithsburg; two sons, James E. Oden Jr. and Michael S. Oden, both of Smithsburg; a sister, Janet A. Isiminger of North Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Greensburg. Pastor Julie Brigham will officiate. Burial will be in Stouffer Mennonite Cemetery, Greensburg, with military services by Morris Frock Post 42, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. by Hagerstown Lodge 217.

William B. Phillips

William B. Phillips, 73, of Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born April 12, 1925, in Leesburg, Va., he was the son of the late Arnold and Mazie Hollinsworth Phillips.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Parsley of Myersville, Md., and Linda Dykstra of Margate, Fla.; a sister, Lois Carter of Gaithersburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery, Leesburg. The Rev. David Howell will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 13, Myersville, MD 21773.

Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.

Robert E. Bruchey

Robert Eugene Bruchey, 68, of 11815 Peacock Trail, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his home.

Born Jan. 6, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lawrence G. and Hilda Blanche Berry Bruchey.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School.

He served as an M. P. in the U.S. Army for six years.

He retired as a deputy/guard with the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

He was a member of F.O.P. Pangborn Lodge; American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; B.P.O. Elks 378; and Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Carter Bruchey; two daughters, Cynthia L. Boggs of Williamsport and Candace S. Collins of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Robert E. Bruchey II of Hagerstown; two sisters, Evelyn L. Rowland of Sharpsburg and Patty A. Fishel of Hagerstown; a brother, Jack E. Bruchey of Hedgesville, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Fraternal Order of Police will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Red Cross, 113 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Carl E. Cutchall

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Carl Eugene Cutchall, 71, of Hustontown, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born March 8, 1928, in Laidig, Pa., he was the son of the late Berlyn E. and Maye Huston Cutchall.

He had operated a service station and restaurant in Hustontown and a service station in Burnt Cabins, Pa. He also sold used cars and had worked at Miller's Garage in Hustontown. He opened Cutchall's Gulf, later Cutchall's Amoco, in Fort Littleton. He and his wife established The Fort Family Restaurant in Fort Littleton, Pa.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of Mount Zion Lodge 774 Free and Accepted Masons, McConnellsburg; Altoona Consistory; Fathers and Sons Inc.; and Hunting Club, Montana.
