Boonsboro Middle School students raised $3,500 for the American Heart Association in less than two hours Tuesday, according to physical education teacher Jim Black.

About 114 students sponsored by community members participated in "Hoops for Heart," a basketball competition. The students shot as many baskets as they could in two minutes each.

According to Black, nine parents volunteered to help with the project, 16 students made posters and 26 students did special jobs for their student service learning credits.
