The Garganas

Thomas J. and Mildred I. Gargana of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at a dinner at Red Lobster Restaurant, hosted by their son, Timothy James.

The Garganas were married Feb. 19, 1949, at Anacostia Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., by the Rev. William Kenneth Lyons.

Mrs. Gargana is the former Mildred Wolford, daughter of the late Jesse and Pearl Wolford. Prior to and in the early years of her marriage, she owned and operated Hair Stylist Beauty Salon in Washington, D.C. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Gargana retired from the U.S. Navy in 1957 with the rank of chief warrant officer, after serving 21 years. He is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He then worked for various manufacturing and engineering firms, retiring from Fairchild Republic Co. in Hagerstown in 1983, as a technical writer.


The Mentzers

Glenton and Dorothy Mentzer of Waynesboro, Pa., celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 6, 1999

They were married in 1934 in Gaithersburg, Md., by the Rev. Frank A. Tyler. They have a daughter, Barbara E. Flood of Waynesboro, Pa., a son, Michael L. Mentzer of Braddock Heights, Md., two grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

The Petersons

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest H. Peterson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party Friday, March 5, 1999, at the home of their daughter, Judith Peterson. The party was attended by their two other daughters, Cheryl Rose and Linda Harbaugh; and three sons, Ernest Peterson III, Nathan Peterson and Terry Peterson.

They were married March 5, 1949.

Mrs. Peterson is the daughter of the late Floyd and Grace Meyers. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Peterson is the son of the late Ernest and Lena Peterson. He is retired from James Winters Painting and Wallpapering Corp.

The Petersons have 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
