Helen L. Johnson

Helen Louise Johnson, 88, who formerly lived with her granddaughter, Callista Barnhart on Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 28, 1910, in Fiddlersburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Jack and Emma Hartman Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Delmar Johnson, in 1986.

She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Leitersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Williams of Maugansville; a son, William R. Johnson of Hagerstown; a stepson, William Williams of Smithsburg; a sister, Mary Thumma of Hagerstown; a granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; a stepgrandson; nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Bowers; a grandson, Anthony Curtis Bowers; a sister, Anna Mae Grove; and four brothers, Richard Williams, Albert Williams, Frederick Williams and Bud Williams.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Odell Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie C. Ackerson

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Marie C. Ackerson, 70, of 6371 Ninth View Drive, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Palmerton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Warren and Lillian Silfies Creitz.

She had been employed as a broker's assistant with Merrill Lynch Fenner and Bean, Winston Salem, N.C. She was a teacher's assistant in Wilmington, Del., and then was employed as an assistant finance officer for the Dupont Special School District. She later was employed by the Colonial School District as a building secretary at McCollough Elementary School. She retired in 1991.

She had been affiliated with St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wilmington; and maintained membership at First United Church of Christ in Palmerton.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas C. Ackerson, whom she married Jan. 6, 1952; a daughter, Dea Marie Pittman of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Deloris Nemecek of Boxford, Mass., and Barbara Ritz of Bath, Pa.; a brother, Colin Creitz of Allentown, Pa.; three granddaughters; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Creitz and Neil Creitz.

A private service will be held Tuesday in Palmerton. The Revs. Floyd Ritz and Jody Neifert will officiate. Burial will be in Tomensing Cemetery, Palmerton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Flower arrangements to be transferred to the funeral service in Palmerton may be sent to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Elizabeth G. Peterson

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Elizabeth G. Peterson, 93, of Piney Mountain, and formerly of 200 N. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Piney Mountain.

Born March 17, 1906, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Anna Stouffer Graham.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Charles W. Zimmerman in 1964; and by her second husband, the Rev. Clifford F. Peterson in 1977.

She was a graduate of Erasmus Hall in New York City; and Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing.

She and her sister, Mary G. Hall Ebersole, owned and operated The Pines Convalescent Hospital in Stoufferstown, Pa.

She was a charter member of Chambersburg Bible Church.

She was a former member of Business and Professional Women's Association, Chambersburg; a former member of Soroptimist Club, Chambersburg and Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce.

She was a direct descendent of Abraham Stouffer who founded Stoufferstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Z. Babcock of Laurel Fork, Va., and Patricia Z. Stumbaugh of Chambersburg; two stepsons, Clifford Peterson of Pine, Ariz., and Dwight Peterson of Wheaton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a stepson.

Services will be Friday, March 26, at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Stoufferstown Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Friday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
