A vehicle leaving Barracuda Surf Bar turned the wrong way onto the Dual Highway at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, attracting the attention of Hagerstown City Police.

Edwin Barrios, 33, of Long Pond, Pa., was charged with driving while intoxicated and going the wrong way on a one-way street, police said.

He was searched and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana after officers found 28 individually-wrapped packages of the suspected illegal drug on him, police said.

Barrios was released after posting $15,000 bond.

A Hagerstown man was jailed Wednesday night after a fight with his girlfriend that sent her to the hospital for treatment, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.


Terry Lee Hamby, 32, of 1041 Bramly Drive, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, deputies said.

Kathy L. Miles, 38, of 149 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, was treated for head injuries and released from Washington County Hospital.

Deputy Tim Hafer responded to Miles' home at 9:26 p.m. after the domestic violence incident was reported.

Hamby, who left the home before the deputy arrived, was later found at his own home.

Hamby posted $5,000 bond.

Pennsylvania authorities have notified Maryland State Police that Charles J. Shipley, 18, of Route 1, Box 220, Bunker Hill, W.Va., was in custody in connection with the Feb. 3 theft of a car from the Sheetz store on Md. 66 at U.S. 40.

Shipley was stopped a few days later in Park Side, Pa., and the car was found to be stolen, police said.

Maryland State police were looking for two men selling meat from a truck who they believe might have taken $650 from a Virginia Avenue resident after selling him $150 in meat.

The man told police he got $150 from an envelope in the kitchen to pay the men. When they left, he discovered $650 more was missing from the envelope.

Tools valued at $2,000 were reported stolen from an outbuilding at 9406 Downsville Pike, according to Maryland State Police.

Stereo equipment valued at $1,000 was taken from a vehicle parked Wednesday at 19142 Valley Overlook Court, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

Mailboxes on Lappans Road and Mar Rock Road are being stolen, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

NEW MARKET, Md. - An fire set in a house under construction at Lake Linganore early Thursday caused about $1,000 damage to the basement, according to Maryland fire marshals.

The 12:36 a.m. fire at the house on Fox Chase Road was discovered by a passerby, according to State Fire Investigator Tim Warner.

His initial investigation revealed a flammable liquid was used to start the fire.

St. THOMAS, Pa. - A burglar broke into a home in the 4900 block of Race Track Road late Wednesday and assaulted the homeowner before fleeing empty handed, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg.

The victim told police the man was black, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, muscular and with a clean-shaven head. He was wearing a black T-shirt, jeans and boots.

The victim was treated at Chambersburg Hospital for minor injuries following the 10 p.m. incident.
