City staff hosts meeting to discuss stadium

March 08, 1999

Hagerstown city staff are hosting an open meeting to discuss a proposed minor league baseball stadium and business park with the people living near the site.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Western Heights Middle School on Marshall Street.

The proposed Home Run Business Park would go on 68 acres between Salem Avenue and Marshall Street near Interstate 81.

A new stadium would become the new home field for the Hagerstown Suns baseball team. The Suns now play at Hagerstown's Municipal Stadium.

"We will be making a report on the status of the project and answer any questions about the presentation," said Larry Bayer, of the city Community Development Department.

Bayer said the intention of the meeting is to make sure the people who would be most affected by the project know what is proposed.

The stadium and business park proposal is being pushed by a group of local politicians and business leaders.

Hagerstown, Washington County and state elected officials have not taken an official vote on whether to fund the project.
