VA van to stop in city

March 01, 1999

Local veterans will get a chance to receive blood pressure screenings, counseling and medical literature as the Veteran's Affairs mobile health van comes to Hagerstown on Tuesday.

The medical unit will be parked at Valley Mall off Halfway Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to Doris Griffin of the VA.

The mobile health van is operated by the Martinsburg Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, she said.

"The VA staff will provide veterans with assistance in enrolling in VA medical care," she said.

Veterans who have not been seen by a VA Medical Center in the past three years should bring a copy of their DD214 (service discharge papers), health insurance information, Social Security numbers of all dependents, 1998's gross household income (not needed for those receiving a VA pension or monetary benefits for a service-connected condition).

Griffin said veterans who are not currently receiving care from the VA should call and make an appointment to learn more about medical benefits.
