Hancock to get tax rebate from county

February 25, 1999

HANCOCK - Hancock will get a $46,540 tax rebate from Washington County in fiscal 1999, a 23 percent increase over the amount the town received in fiscal 1998.

The Washington County Commissioners told Hancock Mayor Daniel Murphy the news during a Tuesday night meeting in Hancock.

Each year the county gives money back to each town to compensate them for the fact that residents of the municipalities pay property taxes to the towns and the county for services provided by both governments.

The largest chunk of Hancock's tax rebate, $33,601, was for police services.

The town also will get a $12,939 allocation for park costs.

"There were no real surprises. We are just happy to get what we can from them," Murphy said Wednesday.
