With noontime temperatures in the low 30s Wednesday, Bob Adair, president-elect of the Exchange Club of Hagerstown, paddled across the lake at Hagerstown City Park.

Adair was forced into the inner tube because his club raised less money than the Antietam Exchange Club for the Parent-Child Center Inc., a United Way agency that teaches parents how to raise children without resorting to physical or mental abuse.

Together the clubs raised $20,470 for the center by selling advertisements in a program for the clubs' annual Monte Carlo Charity Gala.

The gala will be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown.
