New post office subject of public hearing

February 17, 1999

A public meeting to discuss the possible construction of a new post office in the Northern Avenue business area has been scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Northern Middle School, 701 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown, according to a statement from the U.S. Postal Service.

The meeting will be held in the school dining room, according to the statement.

The new post office would replace an existing post office at 531 Northern Ave., postal service spokeswoman Helen Skillman said Wednesday.

The new post office would be open for business by the end of 2000, Skillman said.

She did not know the exact location or estimated cost of the new post office.
