Five Hagerstown residents were charged with drug violations Sunday evening, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

A Sheriff's deputy on patrol at 10 p.m. spotted a van in the parking lot of Shiloh Church near Old Forge Road. The deputy noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, deputies said.

A search of the van revealed a small amount of marijuana, deputies said.

Two adults were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia:

* Adrian Michael Snell, 18, of 831 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown.

* James Paul Rice, 18, of 18910 Waldron Place in Hagerstown.

Three juveniles were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.




A Hagerstown man was charged with assault and a weapons violation Sunday, Hagerstown City Police said.

Alfarad Aquil Evans, 22, of 138 E. Franklin St., was served with a warrant in the 100 block of North Jonathan Street.

The warrant charges him with three counts each of first- and second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment and one count each of malicious destruction of property and handgun on person, police said.




The Hagerstown City Police Street Crime Unit made several drug arrests over the weekend, authorities said.

The following were arrested on Saturday in the first block of West Side Avenue, police said:

* Nancy Hardin Harrison, 37, of 21 W. Antietam St., Apartment 503, was charged with distribution of crack cocaine and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

* Jarrod Shane Harrison, 28, of 21 W. Antietam St. Apartment 503, was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute crack and possession of drug paraphernalia.

* Bernice Virginia Bryan, 43, of 746 W. Washington St., Apartment 1, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The unit also made two arrests on Friday:

* Anthony Lewis Petway, 32, of Room 420 of the Hagerstown YMCA, was charged at the corner of Bethel and Potomac streets with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack, distribution of crack, conspiracy to distribute crack and possession of drug paraphernalia.

* Eric Michael Wilson, 19, of 454 N. Prospect St., was charged at the corner of Jonathan and Bethel streets with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

* Ronald Morese Oliver, 18, of 517 Hammond St., was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack, distribution of crack and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Oliver was charged in the 300 block of North Jonathan Street.




ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday they are investigating an incident that occurred last week in which a 5-year-old boy was struck in the face, authorities said.

The boy was struck in the face by a man with a wooden stick on Feb. 11, police said. The stick had nails protruding from it.
