Allen, Rhodes spark Hancock win

HANCOCK - Hancock used John Allen's defense, while Jacob Rhodes scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers past McConnellsburg, 66-52 Saturday night.

The Panthers (12-6) led 24-20 at the half before McConnellsburg crawled to within 30-29 early in the third quarter. Hancock turned up its defensive pressure, opening the door for Allen's six steals and Rhodes' scoring burst for an 18-point lead.

Hancock hit 9 of 11 foul shots in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Derek Hoffman led Hancock with 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots, while Mike Hixon added 12 points and eight rebounds. Allen also had 10 assists.

Jeremy Reed led McConnellsburg with 15 points.

Northern 58, Waynesboro 47

DILLSBURG, Pa. - Tom Wesner scored 17 of his 24 points in the third quarter to lift Northern from a five-point halftime deficit to a Mid-Penn Capital victory over Waynesboro.

Waynesboro (14-9, 3-3) led 26-21 at the half until Wesner led Northern on a 29-11 run in the third quarter. The guard hit three 3-pointers to spearhead the barrage.

Saeed Samad led Waynesboro with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Andrew Onikepe added 13 points. Ryan Thomas added 18 points for Northern.

Williamsport (Pa.) 77

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Guards Sam Fatherly and Muhammad Cannon combined for 35 of their 38 points in the second half to help Williamsport (Pa.) erase a 10-point halftime deficit and beat Chambersburg.

Williamsport (19-2), rated one of the top 10 schools in Pennsylvania, gave up its height advantage and rode hot shooting by the guards to pull out the victory. Fatherly scored all 18 of his points in the second half, while Cannon hit 17 of his 20 in the final 16 minutes, including three key 3-pointers in the third quarter.

Chambersburg (14-9) led 36-26 at the half and maintained a two-point lead after three quarters, but couldn't hold off Williamsport.

Adam Underkoffler led Chambersburg with 15 points, while Mike Buhrman added 13. Andy Dangler had 10 points with 14 rebounds, and Rickie Riddle scored 12 points.

Hagerstown Krush 11

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Curtis Sprinkle and Aaron Adair scored three goals each to pace the Hagerstown Krush to a victory at the Chambersburg YMCA.

Kris Aleshire scored a goal and had 20 saves. Mike Stevens, Patty Bratcher, Chris Snatcher and John Weaver also scored goals for the Krush.

HCC qualifies two more

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Two more Hagerstown Community College athletes qualified for the NJCAA national meet at the Kroger College Indoor Invitational.

Freshman Tim Lentz will participate in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:40.75, and sophomore Alex Young qualified in the 800 with a 1:57.43 mark.

Freshman Matt Peters, a graduate of South Hagerstown, missed the national standard by 3/4 inch in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 10 1/2 inches. He finished 11th overall.

Hedgesville sweeps

KEYSER, W.Va. - Hedgesville defeated Fairmont Senior 54-21, then downed host Keyser 56-21 in a tri-meet.

Anthony Regalbuto (125 pounds) and Derrick English (140) each won two matches to get to the 100-victory milestone at Hedgesville.

Other double winners for the Eagles were Kevin Ballam (103), Dustin Bowers (112), Jimmy Shetler (119), Bryan Moats (135), Jason Baker (189) and David Cutlipp (275).
