Readers are welcome to leave their recorded message on any topic they choose, but some calls are screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I would like to say thank you to Jim Sprecher and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown for getting me a wheelchair for my dear friend and co-worker Debbie. There really are angels out there and Jim is one of them. Thank you so very much. I would also like to thank the employees of the Maryland Ribbon Co. for their help and their generosity during this illness of their friend and co-worker Debbie. Thank you all so very much, Barb."

"This is to David. I would like to wish him a happy Valentine's Day and tell him that I love him. Love, Sarah."

"I would like to send this little special message to a very dear, sweet lady and Larue H. Kitchens of Williamsport, it is for you. Although you are a retired school teacher now, some of your former students at WHS remember you with lots of fondness and memories. The '50s and '60s were the good old days, especially with you teaching and being a friend. So, Larue, you have a great day. Though the years go on the thoughts of you still remain. P.S. I know she will enjoy this because she enjoys Mail Call."

"If you want to talk about stupid politicians, do you remember when the City Council wanted to sell the City Light Department, that lovely jewel of a utility that is going to save the City of Hagerstown electric users hundreds of dollars. At the rate right now, that's lower than anything in Pennsylvania would like to dream about after deregulation. We got rid of them, we can get rid of others."

"I am a Williamsport resident and I received my electric bill for the last month and I was shocked to see that it more than doubled. It was such a huge increase and I was wondering if anybody else in Williamsport has received a huge bill and can somebody in Town Hall explain to me the huge increase, to me and several others."

"Happy Valentine's Day to the love of my life, from your green- eyed lady."

"Hi Mail Call. I'd just like to remind everybody that February is Black History Month. Have a good day."

"To the caller who claims he doesn't know why Roscoe Bartlett is still around. He has won elections by a landslide. You claim he is too old for this generation. Question, are your grandparents too old for you or your parents? For all your aunts and uncles, bosses and teachers, and congressmen, Bartlett is not there to have a sex affair. He is 71 or 72 and is not too old to do the job we elected him to do. Hang tight, kids. We all get old if we're lucky and we usually get wiser."

"I really give Tim Rowland credit for telling it like it is. In Monday's paper he was right on about the Clear Spring Legion. I myself always thought that the clubs that would put up such a fuss about giving anything out of the tip jars and then when you see the report in the paper to see just exactly what they have made clear, you wonder whose pockets the excess is going into."

"I would like to know what really got this Spam problem on the go. You should be glad you have some to eat. It was good enough for my husband when he was in the service. So what would be the matter with it now? It's good fried, baked like ham, even eaten cold."

"I would like to say that I am on welfare and I am proud of it."

"Hi Mail Call, I'm calling in regards to finding a specific type of storm door. I live in an older home and it is a metal storm door with the jalousie windows that wind out. If anyone has those or knows where I can get one would you please call me at 301-791-2055 and you're more than welcome to leave a message if I'm not at home."

"This is to the lady who walks her little gray dog on Catawba Place, it is very rude that you let your dog urinate on others' cars and in their yards and then walk up the street and let it drop its feces. Please be more considerate. Look out for your neighbors."

"To whoever the editor is of this here Mail Call, don't forget about that recycling plant down there that is a waste of money. It's been sitting down there and only ever worked six months. You got a ball diamond down there that only draws a quarter of a crowd. You got the skating rink out there that has never made a payment. But yet, you want to build a stadium here. Hagerstown is not a baseball town, it is not a football town. You have to go to Frederick for that."

"I think they ought to take the governors and senators of Maryland, sit them on the state line in the mornings and watch all these cars come from Pennsylvania and West Virginia and the whole state of Maryland. Yet Maryland has to pay for an emissions test. West Virginia and Pennsylvania come here and don't pay anything. I think the governor better take another look at this emissions test."
