School quilt nets $1,350

February 10, 1999

A quilt created at Fountain Rock Elementary fetched $1,350 at an auction on Feb. 5, according to Principal Steven Bowers.

Kindergarten teacher Lois Schultz coordinated the schoolwide project. Each grade worked on a panel with an environmental theme.

Schultz, a seamstress for whom embroidering is a hobby, pieced together the panels. The finished product was sold at the school's annual fund-raiser.

The amount was "more than expected," Bowers said. "I think it's wonderful."

Schultz didn't attend the auction. When she heard the news, she said, "I was shocked and pleased. It was really exciting."

The money will be used for field trips, instructional materials and school programs, the principal said.

"The school did benefit greatly from it," said Schultz.
