Man gets 4 years for drug offense

February 05, 1999

A Washington County Circuit judge on Thursday sentenced a Williamsport man to serve four years in prison on a drug offense.

A jury in 1998 found Damon Michael Popp, 23, of 38 N. Conococheague St., Apt. 3, guilty of a charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, court records said.

Washington County Circuit Judge Frederick Wright sentenced Popp to 10 years, but suspended all but four years, court records said.

Last May, Popp was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Shoney Rhett Reasner that Hagerstown Police Officer Paul Kifer saw run a red light at Cannon Avenue and Franklin Street, court records said.

A slow-speed chase ensued and Reasner was stopped.

Kifer looked into the car and saw three bags of suspected cocaine on the console of the Mazda Protege, court records said. Two more bags were found on the seat of the car.
