Police charge 14-year-old with robberies

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 14-year-old Martinsburg boy was charged with two counts of armed robbery early Thursday in connection with a pair of Jan. 17 robberies on Martin Street in Martinsburg, police said.

A 16-year-old Martinsburg boy told police he was robbed at gunpoint by two men at around 10 p.m. Jan. 17 as he was walking on the 800 block of West Martin Street. The victim said one of the men had a semi-automatic pistol and the two stole a $150 gold necklace and charm from him.

The second robbery reportedly happened 15 minutes later when two Martinsburg residents had $25 and a wallet stolen at gunpoint in the 300 block of West Martin Street.

Martinsburg City Police arrested the boy after searching a residence at 102 Leeland Apartments in the 200 block of North Kentucky Avenue. He was placed in the Eastern Regional Juvenile Detention Center pending further court proceedings.

Police are still looking for a second man described as a light-skinned African American between 18 and 20 years old. The man was last seen wearing glasses, is believed to be from Frederick, Md., and police said he goes by the nickname "Smiley."
