City to add flowers to traffic islands

January 26, 1999

Flowers at traffic islands around Hagerstown are just a few months away.

Hagerstown City Council members agreed Tuesday to allow a Hagerstown flower shop to landscape traffic islands throughout the city.

Pat O'Brien, owner of Ben's Flower Shop on Potomac Street, will solicit sponsors for different traffic islands.

The sponsor will pay for the maintenance of the island.

Each sponsor's name will be placed on a sign on the traffic island.

The first planting is expected to be made this spring, said city Public Works Manager Doug Stull.

The agreement between the flower shop and the city was among a list of items approved unanimously by the council Tuesday.
