2 students suspended for having suspected speed

January 22, 1999

BOONSBORO, Md. - Two students at Boonsboro Middle School have been suspended pending an investigation of some pills that apparently were given out or sold Wednesday at the school.

Washington County sheriff's deputies confirmed that a 13-year-old boy was taken out of school at 12:16 p.m. Wednesday.

A second boy whose age was unknown also was removed from the school for his part in the pill incident, juvenile authorities said.

Washington County Board of Education spokeswoman Donna Messina said any charges will depend on what the pills turn out to be.

Deputies said they were told that several students reported taking some pills they called "speed."

"Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken," Messina said. "We have a zero tolerance for controlled substances in the schools."
