Lawmakers will seek funds for YMCA

January 20, 1999

ANNAPOLIS - State lawmakers will seek $1.5 million in the next two years for a new Hagerstown YMCA facility.

Washington County's delegation to the Maryland General Assembly voted Wednesday to ask for a $1 million grant this year and $500,000 next year.

A large portion of the $6.9 million cost of the new facility near the Hagerstown Fairgrounds has been raised through private donations.

Although the request is large, lawmakers said the YMCA has a good shot at getting the money.

Improving the grant's chances is its support by a coalition of Maryland YMCAs, which chose individual projects to support each year.
