Shepherd women win sixth straight game

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Leslie Wolfe broke her scoring slump with 17 points to help the Shepherd College women's basketball team tie a school record with its sixth straight win on Saturday in a 77-53 West Virginia Conference win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

Shepherd (10-5, 7-1) matched the school record for consecutive wins, which was set in 1986-87 and 1990-91. Shepherd has won eight of its last nine games.

The Rams took control of the game early. starting when Chapman hit a 12-footer at the 12:35 mark for a 15-13 advantage. The Rams led 38-19 at halftime.

Wesleyan pulled within 46-34 on Julie Fregetto's basket with 14:12 remaining. The Rams countered with a 14-6 run to push out to a 60-40 lead with 8:44 remaining to coast down the stretch.

Jennifer Chapman added 16 points for Shepherd, while Jennifer Westervelt scored 12. Sandi Goulet posted a career-high 12 assists.

Fregetto, who had 30 points in a recent win over Fairmont, had 16 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Bobcats (9-5, 6-1).
