Woman's death not considered suspicious

January 11, 1999

While foul play hasn't been ruled out in the death of a woman whose body was found Sunday morning in a culvert in the 300 block of East Antietam Street, Hagerstown City Police don't believe her death is the result of a crime.

"This is not being considered as suspicious as this time," Capt. Robert Hart said Monday.

The woman, described as white and in her 30s, is believed to have been from Pennsylvania, Hart said.

Her name was being withheld pending notification of her next of kin, Hart said.

A night watchman found her body at 6:30 a.m. Sunday in an undeveloped area east of the Fennel Building parking lot, police said.

"She had a wound on her head," Hart said. He said she might have sustained the injury in a fall.

The body has been sent the Maryland State Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy, Hart said.
