Mary Bono to speak at Lincoln Day Dinner

January 08, 1999

Reprising a role played by her late husband two years ago, Rep. Mary Bono will deliver the main speech at the Washington County Lincoln Day Dinner this April, a party official said Friday.

Richard G. Everhart, a member of the Republican Central Committee, said Bono, R-Calif, will address local Republicans on April 23. A location has not been determined, he said.

"We're hoping and thinking that it's going to be a very good dinner," Everhart said.

In 1997, Rep. Sonny Bono, who died in a skiing accident last year, wowed about 200 local Republicans.

Everhart said he thinks county Republicans will be just as enthused about Mary Bono, who won election to her husband's Palm Springs congressional seat after his death.

"Whenever you get someone like this, it's very exciting," he said. "We think she's going to stir a lot of excitement with people."
