Vallie J. Gilroy

JOPPA, Md. - Vallie Jane Keller Gilroy, 78, of Joppa, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Franklin Square Hospital.

She was born in Sample's Manor, Md.

She is survived by her husband, Paul S. Gilroy; children, Margaret, Paula and Paul Jr., all of Joppa, Charles of Pensacola, Fla., Mike of Greencastle, Pa., John of Sabillasville, Md. and James of Bel Air, Md.; a sister, Barbara L. Shaw of Smithsburg; a brother, William L. Keller of Smithsburg; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association of Central Maryland, 540 E. Belvedere Ave., Suite 202, Baltimore, MD 21212.

Teresa D. Whitmore

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Teresa Diana Whitmore, 48, of West Brookridge Drive and formerly of Frederick, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 23, 1950, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Mary Virginia Smith Whitmore of Middletown and the late O. Kenneth Whitmore.

She retired from Frederick County Mental Health Services in Frederick due to her illness.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick.

She was a past president of Maryland Classified Employees Association of Maryland; and a past member of the Democratic Central Committee.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Ronald C. Whitmore of New Midway, Md.; a niece, Kimberly Ray; two nephews, Chris Whitmore and Kenny Whitmore; and four great--nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. W. Phillip Fogarty, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro, Md.

Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21702.

Mary E. Hesen

Mary Elizabeth Willingham Hesen, 87, of N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1911, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Florence E. Stickler Willingham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent A. Hesen, in 1981.

She is survived by two nieces, Anna E. Willingham and Nancy Snyder, both of Hagerstown; a great-niece; three great-nephews; five great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John F. Willingham, in 1997.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.

Friends may call Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Jean M. Statton

Jean McCulloch Statton, 75, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998.

Born Aug. 13, 1923, in New Rochelle, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Bert C. and Majorie Verbeck McCulloch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip B. Statton, in 1988.

She attended Southern Seminary and Northwestern University.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She participated in various volunteer organizations. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel.

She is survived by her husband, Philip B. Statton, whom she married Dec. 29, 1943; a daughter, Susan Kruse Rodenacker of Berlin, Germany; three sons, Philip J. Statton and Thomas M. Statton, both of Hagerstown and David B. Statton of Roswell, Ga.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert McCulloch and Bruce McCulloch.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 East Franklin St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

George V. King Sr.

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - George Victor King Sr., 82, of Bolivar, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 17, 1916, in Kimball, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Ida Mills King of Reidsville, N.C. and Pulaski, Va.
