Jefferson County Health Department

Jane Ishman and Nancy Linton, registered nurses contracted with the Jefferson County (W.Va.) Health Department who work with the Jefferson County schools, recently attended the 1998 West Virginia School Nurses Conference in Oak Hill.

The conference, "Bridging Mind and Body," covered topics such as the role of school nurses in safe, drug-free schools; school law, psychiatric disorders in children, cancer and asthma.

Berkeley County is scheduled to host the event next year.

McDonald's

Employees of four McDonald's restaurants in Washington and Frederick counties have each received a Bachelor of Hamburgerology degree for graduating from the Advanced Operations Course at McDonald's Hamburger University.

They are Constance C. Rickerd, of the McDonald's at 517 E. Main St. in Emmitsburg, Md.; Lisa Garlock, of the McDonald's at 313 E. Potomac St. in Williamsport; Brian Swope, of the McDonald's at 520 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown; and Eric Boger, of the McDonald's at 10525 Sharpsburg Pike in Hagerstown.

All McDonald's managers, franchisees, mid-management and company executives worldwide are required to complete the course. It covers all aspects of general business management including customer service, personnel practices, quality assurance, equipment fundamentals, accounting and marketing.

Botanica Services

Botanica Services Inc., a lawn care and landscape maintenance company, recently sent four employees to the Green Industry Expo in Nashville, Tenn.

They are Dale Beard, operations manager of lawn maintenance and irrigation; Tim Beard, operations manager of lawn care and landscape installation; Gary Huntsberger, lawn care estimator; and Michael Brady, landscape manager for design.

The expo covered business and financial management, customer satisfaction, personnel retention, landscape design and safety training.

Stine Davis & Peck Insurance

G. Scott Davis, of Stine Davis & Peck Insurance in Hagerstown, was recognized recently by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors for successfully maintaining the Certified Insurance Counselor designation.

The designation signifies a significant commitment to advanced knowledge and customer service.

FREDERICK, Md. - Linton, Shafer & Co., certified public accountants, is sponsoring a new show, "Contemporary Retirement," on WHAG-TV NBC25 Sunday mornings at 7:30.

The half-hour program hosted by Michael Day, an attorney specializing in "elder law," covers a variety of legal, financial, social, health and insurance issues facing people 50 years old and older.

Don Linton, principal, and Corrine Bradac, associate, of Linton, Shafer & Co., appear weekly on the show with advice on investments and financial and tax planning.

Coolfont Resort

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Coolfont Resort's Treetop restaurant has named Paul Thompson food and beverage director, Lynn Barefoot executive chef, James Farris training banquet chef and Rodney Lynn Pittman training sous chef.

Thompson has 17 years experience in the restaurant business. He is a licensed food inspector and has trained with the Marine Corps Chefs Team. He has worked as a sous chef, executive chef, assistant food and beverage director and a food and beverage consultant.

Barefoot has been a chef for 10 of his 16 years in the restaurant business. He has worked in Army Food Service and in fine dining hotels as a sous chef and executive chef.

Farris has worked at Coolfont for more than four years, and for three years was the a la carte first cook.

Pittman has worked for Coolfont for six years. He spent two years as garde manger chef and two years in salad preparation. He has been cooking a la carte for the past five months.

Reeders Memorial Home

BOONSBORO - Elizabeth A. Kendle has been named employee of the month for December at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

She has worked there for the past two years as a certified nursing assistant on the 11-7 shift.

Four Seasons Crop Care

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Four Seasons Crop Care Inc. recently moved into a new office at its facility at 5985 Olde Scotland Rd. in Shippensburg.

The company has 12 employees and provides custom services, agronomic consulting and fertilizers to more than 400 agricultural customers in the Tri-State Area.

Four Seasons also sells seeds and specialty fertilizers for turf and homeowners.

Glessner Alarm & Communications

Glessner Alarm & Communications in Hagerstown has recognized two employees who marked service anniversaries in October.

Scott Dayhoff celebrated six years with the company on October 3, and Sue Lescalleet celebrated nine years with the company on Oct. 30.
