Luther M. Rafter

CENTREVILLE, Md. - Luther Marshall Rafter, 78, of Centreville, and formerly of Baltimore and Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville.

Born July 3, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Marshall J. and Emma Lewis Rafter.

He attended school in Hagerstown and Baltimore.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Panama at the start of World War II. He re-enlisted and served as a paratrooper in the American Theater of War.

He worked as a conservation officer with the Maryland Department of Tidewater Fisheries. He then worked with his father in the painting contracting business in the Baltimore area and as a welder with Bethlehem Steel Co. in Baltimore.

He is survived by one son, Kirk Rafter of Hagerstown; one brother, Roy Rafter of Chester, Md.; nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester.

Donna G. Kidwiler

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Donna Gageby Kidwiler, 62, of Alta Vista Farm, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at her home.

Born Oct. 19, 1936, in Engle, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Eva Engle Gageby.

She was employed by Jefferson County Board of Education for 31 years and retired from Charles Town Junior High School in 1989.

She was a member of Engle United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Harpers Ferry Alumni Association, Women of Moose Chapter No. 1028, Charles Town, and United Daughters of Confederacy.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Kenneth E. Kidwiler; one daughter, Kenna Kidwiler Banks of Engle; two sisters, Patricia Gageby Henkes of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Nancy Trittipoe Remsburg of Leesburg, Va.; one brother, K. Dale Gageby of Engle; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, C. Gordon Gageby.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna E. Flemming

Anna Ellen Flemming, 91, of 841 Rose Hill Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.

Born Aug. 27, 1907, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Belle Shirley.

She was employed with Southern Ribbon in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Anna Ellen McNamee of Hagerstown; one son, M. Leo Gardner of Keedysville; one sister, Minnie Malone of Winchester; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are being made by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Fannie J. Murray

Fannie Jeanette Murray, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 1, 1924, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Benjaman T. and Josephine Reel Shives.

She was a member of Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church, where she volunteered many years in the nursery.

She is survived by her husband, Dale L. Murray; three daughters, Linda Kunkleman and Leysa Burnett, both of Hagerstown, and Debra Osborne of Clear Spring; three sons, Denver Murray of Annapolis, Md., Craig Murray and Galen Murray, both of Hagerstown, 14 grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert L. Dell will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery in Big Pool.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy L. O'Brien

Dorothy Lee O'Brien, 90, of 300 Northern Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Nov. 26, 1908, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late James Melvin and Jane Delzell Morgan Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Vernon O'Brien.

She was a member of The Hagerstown Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane Plumb of Waldport, Ore., and Jene Meier of Hagerstown; one son, James Walling Plumb of Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Kenneth J.W. McKee

Kenneth J.W. "Kenny" McKee, 62, of 14014 Marsh Pike, and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1988, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
