To close

U.S. 40

December 19, 1998

The intersection where U.S. 40 meets Day Road and Hebb and Emmert roads just outside Hagerstown is scheduled to be closed for 24-hours beginning 8 a.m. Monday, said Rose Muhlhausen, a spokeswoman with Maryland's State Highway Administration.

Weather permitting, state workers will be changing the intersection as it goes across U.S. 40 - turning it from an open intersection into two separate turn lanes.

Traffic on U.S. 40 should not be affected, Muhlhausen said.

Vehicles now can cross U.S. 40 directly to move between Day and Emmert and Hebb roads.

After the construction, drivers will be forced to go to the next closest traffic light and make a U-turn to get across U.S. 40.
