Woman mugged in mall parking lot

HALFWAY - A shopper was mugged in the Valley Mall parking lot on Wednesday by a man who dragged her about 300 feet and kicked her, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

The woman opened the trunk of her car outside the J.C. Penney store when a man in his late teens or early 20s grabbed her pocketbook and knocked her to the ground, deputies said.

As he dragged her, the mugger kicked the woman and told her to let go of the purse, deputies said. He managed to wrest the pocketbook from her and ran east in the parking lot across the railroad tracks toward Halfway Manor.

The mugger is described as a white man, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt and sweat pants, a knit ski-type hat and had two to three days growth of facial hair.
