Edna L. Springer

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Edna Louella Springer, 84, of Charles Town, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Intergrated Health Services of West Virginia, Charles Town.

Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Ranson, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Warner and Altie Rowland Price.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob L. Springer.

She loved gardening and yard work.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; three sisters, Myrtle Hamilton, Pearl Price and Nina Rickel; and four brothers, William Allen Price, Henry Price, Lee Price and Joseph Price.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. Pastor Donald Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grant Woolford

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Grant "Chuck" Woolford, 74, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 12, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Francis and Anna Pearl Eversole Woolford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Clendening Woolford.

He retired as a nursing assistant after forty-four years of service with the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

He was a member of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Berkeley Post 14 American Legion; and Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW.

He is survived by five cousins.

Military graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Lewis F. Carroll Jr.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Lewis Franklin "Buzzy" Carroll Jr., 67, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Jan. 5, 1931, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of Sarah Ann "Bertie" Long Carroll of Rippon, W.Va. and the late Lewis Franklin Carroll Sr.

He was a graduate of Charles Town High School.

He was an officer with Shepherdstown Police Department for 31 years, and served as chief from 1964 to 1995. Prior, he was an inspector with Glen L. Martin Co., Orlando, Fla. He served as Police Chief of Ranson, W.Va. Police Department from 1958 to 1961. He also was a Constable in Jefferson County, W.Va. for several years.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Shepherdstown Rotary.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 83, Berkeley County, W.Va. and Jefferson County; a member of West Virginia Chief's Police Association; a member and first assistant chief of Shepherdstown Fire Company; a member and past master of Mount Nebo Masonic Lodge 91, Shepherdstown; a past district deputy grand master of 15th Masonic District; a member of Mecklenburg Chapter 31 Royal Arch Masonic, Shepherdstown; a member of Potomac Commandry 5 Knights Templar; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason-Valley of Martinsburg; a member of Shrine Templar-Wheeling, W.Va.; Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club; Eastern Panhandle Past Masters Club; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town, W.Va.; and a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marquerite E. Mills Carroll; five sons, Beverly F. Carroll of Sterling, Va., Bruce S. Carroll of Middleway, W.Va., Terry L. Carroll of Berryville, Va., Ronald L. Carroll and Timothy W. Carroll, both of Shepherdstown; three sisters, Gertrude Bell of Bluemont, Va., Shirley Russell of Rippon, W.Va. and Mary Ann Griffith of Middleway; a brother, Kenneth Carroll of Middleway; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alec Carroll.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town.

Michael E. Jones Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael Eugene "Teedie" Jones Sr., 45, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at his home.

Born July 20, 1953, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of Nancy L. Brown Jones of Ranson, W.Va. and the late David S. Jones Jr.

He was employed at Certainteed Inc., Williamsport.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
