Man pleads guilty to assault

December 03, 1998

A 20-year-old Hagerstown man who threatened two other men with a gun in September 1997 pleaded guilty Wednesday in Washington County Circuit Court to one count of second-degree assault.

Levar Kendrick McDonald, of 911 E. Main Ave., was sentenced to two years in prison, given credit for time served and then the balance was suspended, according to court records.

Washington County Circuit Judge Frederick Wright placed McDonald on probation for three years.

The Sept. 21, 1997, incident occurred in the 900 block of Lanvale Street, according to court records.

An argument began between McDonald and the two victims, Troy Barrington and Shaun Brooks, according to court records.

The three parted company but McDonald returned about 10 minutes later, approaching the other two men.

He pointed a silver handgun at one man and then turned to the other and said, "do you want some, too?" court records said.

Barrington and Brooks fled on foot. No shots were fired.

In exchange for the guilty plea, the prosecution dropped additional charges of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a handgun.
